One of our recent projects involved working with a returning customer who first contacted us at the beginning of the year for an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR). We completed all necessary remedial work during that visit, leaving the customer happy.
So, when they decided to transform a guest room into a home office, they called us to help out again!
The Project Brief: A Guest Room to Office Transformation
Our returning customer wanted to repurpose an underused guest room into a functional office space. They had recognised the need for an additional workspace that was both comfortable and practical.
A key part of this transformation was ensuring the room had adequate lighting, as good lighting is essential for maintaining focus and productivity during working hours.
In addition, the customer also requested that we update the lighting in their lounge area. The outdated downlights were no longer providing sufficient illumination, and they wanted a more efficient, modern solution that would brighten the space and reduce energy costs.
The property, a peaceful religious retreat, required our team to carry out the work with minimal disruption, respecting the environment throughout the installation process.
Lighting Challenges: Creating a Brighter, More Efficient Space
The main challenge of this project was designing and installing lighting that would be bright enough for detailed office tasks while also creating an evenly cast ambience throughout the room. Poor lighting can make a workspace uncomfortable and unproductive, so we aimed to provide an effective solution.
For the lounge area, the existing downlights were not up to modern standards in terms of brightness and energy efficiency. Our goal was to upgrade the fittings to provide brighter, more evenly distributed light without increasing energy consumption.
The Installation Process: Precision and Professionalism

Design and Planning
Our first step was to assess the space and discuss the customer’s requirements. We agreed on a lighting layout that would provide balanced illumination across the office. To ensure the best coverage, we used a laser line to mark out the precise positioning of each fitting.
This aids in creating uniform lighting, especially in a workspace where uneven light can cause eye strain and fatigue.
Running Cables
The next phase involved carefully running the cables through the walls and ceiling. In this property, we had to be particularly mindful of the building’s structure, ensuring minimal disruption and preserving the aesthetic integrity of the retreat.
Our experienced electricians used specialist equipment to thread the cables with precision, avoiding any unnecessary damage to the walls or ceiling.
Installing New Light Fittings
With the cables in place, we proceeded with installing the new light fittings. In the office, we selected energy-efficient LED fittings that provide bright, cool light, ideal for a working environment. These LEDs illuminate the room more effectively than traditional bulbs and also have a longer lifespan and consume significantly less energy.
For the lounge area, we replaced the outdated downlights with modern LED downlights that deliver a more powerful and consistent spread of light. This upgrade improved the room’s brightness, making it more inviting while also reducing the home’s overall energy consumption.
Final Testing and Finishing
Once all the fittings were installed, we conducted thorough testing to ensure everything was working perfectly. Our team double-checked the alignment and brightness of the lights to ensure they met the customer’s expectations. We then completed the project by making sure the workspace was tidy and leaving the area as we found it.
The End Result: Brighter, More Efficient Spaces
The transformation of the guest room into an office was a great success creating a bright and evenly lit space, perfect for working comfortably throughout the day. The lounge area was also vastly improved, with the new downlights offering much better illumination and energy efficiency.
