Background

TS Electrical Services were called in to support an ongoing home project for Gary and Wendy Steadman, who were in the later stages of renovating their property. The couple wanted to install new electric radiators to improve energy efficiency and comfort in their home, while also upgrading their existing consumer unit to meet modern safety standards.

The project came to TS Electrical through a recommendation, with the team joining the works as they were underway. Our task was to ensure the property’s electrical system was fully compliant, safe, and futureproof. We were also tasked with carrying out the final connections and installation of the new heating elements.

The Challenge

Joining a project mid-way through can often present unexpected hurdles, and this was no different. Some of the first-fix electrical infrastructure was already in place, which meant TS Electrical had to carefully assess existing work, make adjustments where required, and ensure full regulatory compliance before sign-off.

A key priority was the replacement of the existing consumer unit with a new model incorporating a Surge Protection Device. With more and more modern homes now housing sensitive electronic equipment, effective surge protection is an important upgrade to guard against voltage spikes that can damage appliances and systems.

In addition, Gary and Wendy had opted for stylish modern electric radiators to replace their older heating system. These needed to be safely wired into the property’s circuits and controlled via individual thermostats, giving the homeowners flexibility and efficiency in how they heat different rooms.

Finally, while certifying the installation, TS Electrical identified a non-compliant light fitting that no longer met current UK regulations. We recommended and installed a safe replacement to bring this up to standard.

The Work

Led by one of TS Electrical’s trusted engineers, Harry, the team approached the project in stages:

Consumer Unit Upgrade

The existing consumer unit was removed and replaced with a new FuseBox consumer unit fitted with a Surge Protection Device. This offers much greater protection for the home’s electrical system and connected devices. The installation was neatly carried out with careful attention to cable management, helping ensure future maintenance is straightforward.

Electrical Radiator Installation

We then undertook the second fix of several new electric radiators throughout the property. The radiators chosen were modern cast-iron style models with integrated thermostatic controls and digital wall-mounted thermostats for easy adjustment.

Each radiator was hardwired into a dedicated switched spur for safe isolation and ease of use. The team also fitted digital thermostats for each heating zone, giving Gary and Wendy room-by-room control of temperatures and the ability to fine-tune their heating schedules.

The images of the project clearly show the quality and attention to detail of these installations: tidy cable routing, flush wall controls, and properly isolated fused connection units all contribute to a professional and safe result.

Additional Compliance Work

During final checks, Harry identified an outdated light fitting that was no longer compliant with UK Building Regulations. This was swiftly replaced with a safe plastic pendant fitting in line with current standards — a simple but important detail that reflects our commitment to quality and safety.

The Result

Gary and Wendy were delighted with both the end result and the service they received from TS Electrical. The project was completed efficiently, with clear communication and attention to detail throughout.

Their glowing review speaks for itself:

We have just had some electric radiators and a consumer unit fitted by Harry from TS Electrical, [who] turned up nice and promptly. He was very efficient, friendly, polite and hardworking with lots of good advice. An absolute top man, would definitely recommend.
